This is the first application for the use of chia oil, but the advisory committee has previously considered two applications for the authorisation of chia seeds, which are the source of chia oil, in a number of food categories. Views wanted on phytosterol esters » A company has applied to the Food Standards Agency to market phytosterol esters as a novel food ingredient, and views are wanted on the application. Phytosterol esters are used by the food industry for their cholesterol-lowering properties. Free phytosterols are naturally present at low levels in vegetable oils and in food derived from such oils. Dairy products recalled in Devon » Dunn's Dairy of Beacon View Farm, Devon, has recalled all date codes of its milk and cream products because of possible cross contamination of milk and insufficient heat processing. If you have bought any dairy products that have come from this farm, please do not drink or eat them. The Agency has issued a Product Information Recall Notice. More results of beef product testing published » The Food Standards Agency is today confirming it has received a further 19,050 industry results from testing beef products for horse DNA. The Agency has also published the full report of the local authority testing programme. The new results show that three beef products contained horse DNA at or above the 1% threshold. None tested positive for the veterinary drug phenylbutazone (bute).
