dock pudding - archive pages
Started in 1971 in an attempt to halt the decline of this local dish. The competition, which is held in Mytholmroyd each April (in Calderdale, West Yorkshire) is still going strong. Contestants cook a full breakfast, including dock pudding, on a stage, and the results are passed through to judges in another room. The dishes are identified to the judges only by a number. The cooking and deliberations are accompanied by brass band music from the Hebden Bridge Junior Band.

The winner in 2011 was Megan Masters, age 14, from Wheatley.
